The new Astra GTC range or you who are in mainland Europe may call it as Opel Astra OPC and the Vauxhall Astra VXR in Britain has officially announced to enter production stage.
This most powerful car in Astra GTC range shared the common performance specifications with the two Astra GTC- based hot hatches.
A new 2.0 liter turbocharged direct injection four cylinder empowers the OPC, producing output of 280 hp and 400 Nm or 295 lb- ft or torque. The power is delivered through 6 speed manual gearbox and a specially created mechanical limited slip differential to the front wheels.
With such a power, this new Astra GTC range is an appropriate rival to the Volkswagen Golf R and the Scirocco R.
General Motor European division claimed that the Astra OPC is able to achieve the top speed of 155 mpg or equal to 250 km/h and run away from standstill to 100 km/ h or 62 mph.
A raft of bespoke chassis mods are equipped on this Astra, covering Brembo brakes and a returned suspension along with GM’s adaptive FlexRide system which available with three settings, those are Normal, Sport and VXR/OPC.
Most of the chassis development of the vehicle was built in the notorious Nordschleife which has managed as the Le Mans 24 hour race champion.
Sleek visual identifiers such as the new sculpted front and rear bumpers, side skirts, a roof spoiler and two noticeable exhaust tail pipes in a trapezoid shape are employed by the automakers to decorate the Astra styling front.
Inside the car there are a couple of gorgeous sport bucket seats completed with embroidered company’s logo in the back, sports steering wheel completed with a flat bottom, and revised instrument panels.
GM has not yet announced any details and sales date of the Astra. So that we still have to be patient to wait until the beginning of next year.
