Following the launching of the three- door model of the Audi A1 in the past 2010, a bunch of rumors about the five- door version have been circulating around the media. A rumor stated that the launch of the five- door would have been made last September at Frankfurt Motor Show but there was no information about the show’s opening and closing.
After long waiting, finally Audi has revealed its latest version of the Audi A1 range. This more family- friendly version five- door model is called the A1 Sportback. Overall, the A1 Sportback shares the same outline as the previous three- door model. The vehicle’s dimensions are identical as well in which mounted a 97 inches wheelbase in the 155 inches long body. Clear differences are placed on its height and width of which the five- door is taller and wider by 0.2 inches than its predecessor.
The A1 Sportback features four seats standard, but a five- seat configuration also offered at no additional fee. The headroom gets more space as the height is adjusted. The news, weather forecast and play web radios and even Google Earth and Google Street View images can be displayed on the Sportback’s connectivity system.
A choice of three TDI diesels and three TFSI gas engines are available to be placed under its hood, producing output ranging from 86 to 185 ponies. All of the units are all four- cylinders and turbocharged which can be coupled to the company’s seven- speed DSG transmission. Three or five and six speed manual transmissions are also available depends on the engine and trim level.
At the beginning of next year, the A1 Sportback is ready to be ordered in Europe. The company has set a price tag of €16,950 or equal to $22,940 for an A1 Sportback. It means the A1 Sportback is higher by €850 or $1,150 over the outgoing model.
