One more creation of a Korean automaker will join the electric car market. Well, Kia had have its first production EV named the new Ray EV to be soon join other Electric models in the market range.

The new Ray EV was built based on the previously unveiled Ray city car that is only available in Korea market. For the overall appearance, the new Ray EV shares the common model’s dimensions. It is also built on the same production line as the conventional combustion-engine models in an international first for an EV production.

The new Ray EV is battery- powered with the company’s 1.0 liter unit along with a 50 kW electric motor which delivers output of 167 Nm of torque. it means the power is improved by 77 percent over the gas unit. The unit also gains 16.4 kWh lithium ion polymer battery packs and under its rear seat and cabin placed a 10 year life cycle.

The new Ray EV is heavier indeed at 187 kg compared to the gasoline model. However, it is able to sprint more energetic from standstill to 100 km away or 62 mph in 15.9 seconds sprint time, while reaching 130 km/h or 81 mph top speed.

You just need around six hours to recharge the battery pack using 220V household supply and need 25 minutes employing fast charge mode.

The new Ray EV is offered with an automatic transmission of which two modes are offered, the B mode or brake mode and the E or ‘eco’ drive mode. The second one is able to maximize the delivery of the motor’s torque in order to improve the driving range, while the B mode can be chosen to optimize the braking power when driving on downhill roads.

The electric motor operation, battery status and distance to recharge are displayed on an exclusive instrument cluster. A warning system named VESS or Virtual Engine Sound System is also fixed on the new Ray EV which delivers a combination of recorded gasoline engine noises to warn pedestrians.

The company is planning to produce the new Ray EV in 2,500 unit examples.
