In Ford Focus range in Europe, the company has already slimed down the engine used by presenting a brand- new 1.0 liter, three cylinder EcoBoost petrol unit so that the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions can be reduced.
The new turbocharged comes in two favors and is replacing the naturally aspirated 1.6 liter petrol engine.
Let’s start with the version which is producing 99 ponies or 100 PS. This unit returns fuel consumption of 58.9 mpg in the UK cycle or equal to 4.8 lt/100 km, while in US it figures 49 mpg. With the five- door Focus, the CO2 emission is delivered at 109 g/km.
The next version is the 123 hp or 125 PS of power and 170 Nm or 125 lb- ft of torque between 1,400 and 4,500 rpm. On the other hand this unit reach peak of torque at 200 Nm with overboost. The combined fuel economy is returned of 56.5 mpg UK, around 5.0 lt/ 100 km or 47 mpg US, while the CO2 emission is figured at 114 g/km in the five- door hatchback.
Ford’s European executive powertrain derector, Graham Hoare said that the new 1.0 liter turbo EcoBoost is the third addition to the company’s EcoBoost engine range, joining the previous 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre EcoBoost engines
The company claimed that this new 1.0 Liter EcoBoost engine can be fixed into a piece of A4 paper. Well, this small and cute EcoBoost was built by the UK- based engineers at Dunton and Dagenham.
In February, the engine will have been offered on the European market. The company has already set a price tag of £13,995. Compared to the old 1.6 liter 125 PS engine the 1.0 liter is cheaper by £250. Later on, it is expected to be matched with the C- MAX, Grand C- MAX compact minivans and the all- new B- MAX small MPV.
