The Stuttgart- based automaker finally has already announced the most appropriate name for its upcoming compact SUV. Interestingly, Porsche take a word ‘Macan’ as its compact SUV’s name which has a meaning as tiger in Indonesian language. Just wondering, does the Porsche Macan Compact SUV have the same great performance as macan or tiger?
Apart of the announcement of the baby SUV’s name, the German automaker also provided us with a video teaser and a sketch of the Macan in the form of five- door model. From the image, except of its lights’ shape which is more similar to that of the newest 911, the Macan’s appearance is so identical to the second- generation Cayenne.
The Member of the Executive Board Sales and Marketing of the automaker stated that the name ‘Macan’ suited the brad performance that combined all sports car characteristics and it sounds very well in many languages and dialects. Moreover, the word ‘Macan’ also built a positive association.
For the production of the Macan itself, Porsche has already prepared for as much €500 million ot US$652 million to turn facility into a totally developed production plant. The Macan is expected to be manufactured next year at the company’s plant in Leipzig.
The Macan styling is laid on the design language of the Audi Q5 and even the two are said to share the same hardware components such as engines, steering, transmission, axles and Audi’s Quattro four-wheel-drive along with with braking developed by Porsche. Making the little SUV’s handling’s characteristics sportier, the automaker also made use of suspension and dynamic control systems as well.
The word Macan sounds strange to be used to name a SUV indeed but it is okay and I just cannot wait to see the production version of the Macan next year.
