Maruti Suzuki is not quite satisfied with the India’s best- selling brand with about 700,000 deliveries and more than 40% of the market rate in 2011. Now the automaker wants to dominate all the car segments, including Multi- Purpose Vehices that contribute about ten percent of India total car sales.
In order to reach its dream, the Maruti Suzuki has now brought the MPV model dubbed as the new Ertiga. The Ertiga is actually designed in Japan by Suzuki but it is produced in India locally. The Ertiga will have its market debut this week.
Compared to the five- door Swift hatchback, the Ertiga is longer by 415 mm and taller by 155 mm with a total dimension of 4,265 mm long and 1,685 mm tall. This MPV rides on a 2,740 mm wheelbase but has the same width with the hatchback at 1,695 mm. Now, the Ertiga offers a roomier space since the automaker has fitted a third row of seats into the Ertiga.
The company offers a choice of two four- cylinder engines, including a 1.4 liter petrol unit that is good for 94 ponies or 95 PS of power at 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm or 96 lb- ft of peak torque. The four- cylinder is able to return a fuel economy of 6.2 liter/ 100 km or 37.7 mpg in US cycle. The second engine is the 1.3 liter turbo which capable to deliver 89 horses or 90 PS at 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm of peak torque at 1,750 rpm. The fuel consumption is returned at 4.8 lt/ 100 km or 48.9 mpg US.
