Volvo has introduced two models of their cars, the Volvo S60 and V60 R-Desgin by design model sports car that feels good and featuring a special chassis that was developed to ensure the driving experience and comfortable fit.
2011 Volvo S60 R-Design has a revised grille, bumpers that have been modified, an aggressive rear diffuser, and a unique 18-inch alloy wheels.
“The all-new S60 and V60 models are our sportiest ever. With R-Design They are even Sharper. They’re the natural choice for true connoisseurs,” says Magnus Jonsson, Senior Vice President of Product Development at Volvo Cars.
“These cars have been specially developed for buyers who want to put their very own stamp on their car. And with R-Design, we are attracting a younger target group. We expect that 10 percent of all S60 and V60 customers will choose the R-Design option on markets where it is available. We aim to win over one-third of these customers from competing brands,” says Magnus Jonsson.
The new Volvo S60 R-Design has developed a special set of design details, both inside and outside On the exterior of the cars have a huge front, with a redesigned grille painted in piano black. The sporty look is further enhanced with a color-matched body components, details of special matte finish and a hexagonal pattern that is repeated in front and behind. Twin exhaust pipes distinctive and unique five-spoke wheels with 18-inch diamond emphasize the overall sporty appeal.
To improve handling, Volvo engineers installed a strut brace, shorter springs (which reduce ride height 15mm), and stiffer bushings (20% firmer than the standard model). On top of this, they also added monotube rear dampers and Corner Traction Control which uses torque vectoring to reduce understeer.
The R-Design package will be available with a variety of engines including everything from the 115 bhp (86 kW / 117 PS) 1.6-liter D DRIVe to the 304 bhp (227 kW / 308 PS) 3.0-liter T6.
Pricing information wasn’t released, but the models will start arriving in dealerships this fall.
On the interior, the driver and front passenger sit in sports seats in which the backrest from the S60 and V60 is matched by an all-new seat cushion with even closer side support than before.
“The seat cushion shapes itself to the occupant’s body but is nonetheless firm, thanks to a combination of two layers each with a different degree of hardness. As a result, drivers of different sizes all enjoy the same excellent side support,” explains Magnus Jonsson.
The special leather/textile upholstery is available in a version trimmed in off-black and ceramic light, or in an all-black variant, both with contrasting stitching. The interior also features a special steering wheel, gear selector, sports pedals and floor-mats.
