The rumors over the past year had arose that Mercedes Benz flagship would get a new V8 engine. Now, the news has been officially confirmed by Mercedes if the range-topping AMG variant in the 2012 SLK line-up will be powered by the company’s new 5.5 liter V8 engine.

This new 5.5 liter V8 engine shifted the previous turbo engine which produces a great output of 315 kW and 540 Nm of torque. The engine produces more powerful output compared to its predecessor model which produces only 270 kW and 510 Nm of torque.

Not only produces improved output, the new engine also delivers improved fuel efficiency by using gained AMG’s Cylinder Management system through cylinder deactivation. Mercedes stated that the switching is immediate and imperceptible from the30 millisecond to four cylinder operation, at 3600 rpm. the SLK AMG figures fuel consumption at 8.5 l/ 100 km, it means the fuel consumption is reduced by a 30 percent, less than that of its previous model.

Last year a spied- photos of SLK AMG appeared in quad- tip tailpipes and a noticeable front bumper with larger intakes. Now, it is expected that SLK AMG might come in large forged alloy wheels in front of bigger, more powerful brakes.

Mercedes-Benz has managed to hold the SLK 55 AMG debut at Frankfurt Motor Show this September. However, Mercedes-Benz Australia’s David McCarthy stated that the production of SLK AMG Australia itself has not been decided yet. David McCarthy said that the Mercedes Australia did not expect the SLK AMG to launch before the 2012 or before the first quarter of 2012. Yet it might be had its launch in Australia sometime in the first half.
