Lately, BMW announced that its flagship, I sub- brand to be expanded other two models of I brand after the i3 and i8 arrive on markets in the next to or three years.
According to a report quoted by an online automotive magazine ‘autoblog’, the upcoming two models which will soon join the i family will be the i4 and i5. The i4 and i5 is estimated to come in a family focused four doors and a smaller coupe model.
In order to make the weight lighter both i4 and i5 will be set in carbon fiber reinforced plastic ‘Life’ structure and employ variations of the drivetrains which is also fixed to the i3 and i8 as well.
The i4 is most likely to be based on the architectural of i3 model but refuse the extra set of doors and seats in order to create a two- seater with a solping roof, wider track and a more sporty appearance. A variant of the i3′s electric motor completed with the same optional range-extending engine mounted out back will probably empower the i4. Within the next five to six years later, BMW hopes that the company will have at least one reasonably priced i- branded two door. BMW considered the i4 will be a more achievable hybrid sports sedan while the i8 will be the highest at $100,000.
In the other hand, the i5 will be empowered by the same plug-in hybrid drivetrain as the i8 which is able to produce up to 400 lb- ft of torque only when the turbo has 1.5 liter and electric motor work in harmony. The i5 is estimated to be more conventional four- door sedan with a coupe-ish profile.
Wait for the i4 and i5’s concept versions after the launch of i8 in the next 2014.
