Skoda is very synonymous with the family sedan that is more focused on fuel economy and not so concerned with performance cars. Skoda is now presenting Octavia VRS special model to provide a breakthrough in the process of introducing their new models to be more familiar.
The Octavia VRS was built for the 10th anniversary of its iconic performance flagship VRS badge to celebrate and to reach the break the 200 mph barrier. Skoda has done this with a standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder TSI petrol engine of the Octavia by swapping the standard turbo with a specially designed turbo-respected firm Garret component. Adding this turbo has dramatically changed the car output by adding a massive 380bhp and 170 lb-ft of torque for a total of 600 horsepower and 26-28 PSI of boost pressure.
As if the engine updates were not enough, Skoda has also spiffed up the outside of the Octavia with some aerodynamic updates. The vehicle has a new sub-frame, which prepared a race intercooler, a reinforced roll cage, a parachute, fire extinguishers, and a window cage houses. It was almost 80 mm closer to the ground.
Robert Hazelwood, Director of Skoda UK, said: “The 10-year relationship between the UK and the VRS badge has been extremely successful this is a milestone birthday and Bonneville is a fitting tribute ..” He adds: “It’s an ambitious project that might surprise a few people, but Skoda is all about engineering excellence and this car is pushing into new frontiers.”
We have already said that Skoda is one of the last notice that you associate with breaking 200 mph, but the Octavia VRS proved us wrong in a hurry when it was recently a top speed of 202.15 mph hit on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. The event corresponded with the British branch of the brand celebrates the 10th anniversary performance of the VRS badge. Kudos for Skoda for the remarkable achievement, maybe the next time they will start producing supercars that can routinely eclipse 200 mph on a given day.
